A photograph taken during a night walk on the Karlsplatz in my hometown of Vienna, Austria.

Home to Vienna's Technical University, where I did my degree, the square and its surrounding are full of fond memories for me and one of my favorite places in the city.

It is a popular place for people to meet friends and spend time, but also always busy with people passing through on their way to other destinations, the image capturing both with the small group sitting on the stairs of the Karlskirche and the cyclist riding on the edge of the pond.

On a different level, it leaves the observer plenty room to discover hidden meaning. The Karlskirche reflected in the pond shows how mirrors can open up additional  dimensions, new perspectives, and show another side of the world. The cyclist is not only riding along the edge of a pond, but on the edge of these two sides of the world, balancing between light and shadow, both always being present, with the choice of where to look and go being yours.

My personal bond to its location and the combination of simplicity and depth make makes this image one of my favourite street photos in my portfolio.
