A composition of buildings against the blue sky, with colors, light and shadow as only ingredients, taken somewhere in Florence, Italy.

The image lives of the contrast of heavy, man-made stone walls with the open sky, the sharp edges between sun and darkness, and the balanced structures and colors, each existing in their own right without dominating one another.

From the many photos I took home fifteen years ago from that trip to Italy, this is the one I come back to the most, always drawn to its beautiful simplicity.
