A scene in the Chinese Buddhist Kuan Ti temple, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The city has a heterogenous population of ethnic Malays, Chinese and Indians and with religion being a big part of life, it is home to many mosques as well as Buddhist and Hindu temples. Those remain mainly places of worship rather than tourist attractions, and are frequented by locals of all ages and walks of life.

This image captures many of the elements characteristic to Buddhist temples, the busy yet silent crowd, worshippers absorbed deep in thought and prayer, offerings of food, flowers and burning incense and candles. But of course Kuala Lumpur also draws visitors from all over the world, in this scene hinted at by the faint reflection of a single foreigner in one of the glass cases.

To me, this image not only captures a scene of worship but is also a symbol of the deep roots faith and spirituality have in Asian societies, much more so than it has in the Western world.
